Master of Science in Chinese Medicine (Part-time)

The programme has been included in Pre-approved Training Course List (Programme Code: 19A1CP012_005) under Chinese Medicine Development Fund (CMDF). Graduates who has succeed in applying for the relevant funding scheme from CMDF could receive a subsidy up to HK$60,000 for the tuition fee.

Offered by the School of Chinese Medicine, the Master of Science in Chinese Medicine is a two-year part-time programme. The Programme has two specializations, namely Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Specializations in defined areas of study offer courses that enrich students' existing knowledge base and allow the pursuit of specialist knowledge skills at the master-degree level. Students are required to choose one of the aforementioned specializations, and complete at least 36 units according to the study scheme for graduation.

Specializations and Study Schemes

Specialization: Chinese Medicine

The specialization of Chinese Medicine mainly aims at providing current Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners with a platform for enhancing their clinical abilities by studying advanced principles in diagnosis and prescription from Chinese medicine classics and experience Chinese Medicine Practitioners/ scholars, and contemporary research methodologies in Chinese medicine.

Specialization: Acupuncture
The specialization of Acupuncture is exclusively targeted for those who have completed Bachelor’s degree in Chinese medicine, Medical, Nursing, Physiotherapy or health care profession; or have obtained legal registration to practise Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. It provides students with a platform to enhance their clinical skills and research abilities in Acupuncture.

*BCME6124 Basic theories and Diagnostic methods of Chinese Medicine will commence in August 2024.

Remarks:
1. Applicants are required to indicate the specialization they wish to apply in the online application form.
2. To achieve better learning outcome, the School may recommend the elective courses to students according to their background.
3. School of Chinese Medicine reserves the right for the arrangement of teaching staffs without notice.
4. Student should conduct clinical practice on 10 consecutive days (total 80 hours) in order to fulfill the requirement of “BCME6121 Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinical Practice”. To achieve better learning outcome, students are advised to conduct clinical practice in continuous 10 days or 5 days, The School of Chinese Medicine reserves the right of final arrangement.

Admission Requirements

• Applicants should meet the general requirements of the Graduate School.

• Specialization: Chinese Medicine

  1. have majored in Chinese medicine; or

  2. have completed a diploma programme in Chinese medicine and have obtained legal registration to practise Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.

  Specialization: Acupuncture

  1. have majored in Chinese medicine, medical or health care profession; or

  2. have completed a diploma programme in Chinese medicine and have obtained legal registration to practise Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.

2.Submit the following supporting documents to the School of Chinese Medicine:

•One photocopy of your HKID card or other identity document as given in the Application Form.

•Official transcripts (with a complete record of courses attended and examination results) of all tertiary level studies. Photocopies will not be accepted*. Applicants should first download the “Transcript Submission Covering Sheet” and send it to their universities to apply for transcripts. Transcripts should be returned directly to relevant Divisions in sealed envelop.

•*CUHK qualifications (Bachelor’s or higher degrees): Photocopies of transcripts issued by CUHK are accepted.

•Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) and Verification Report of China Higher Education Degree Certificate (中國高等教育學歷認證報告) issued by the CHESICC (學信網).

•Copies of certificates of academic/professional qualifications.

•Copies of other qualifications, e.g. certificate and transcript of courses on Chinese Medicine.

•One document of any one of the following score reports/certificates, showing that you have fulfilled the English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission to the Graduate School:

  ♦Certifying letter of result in English of HKALE (Grade E or above), or HKHLE (Grade E or above), or HKDSE (Level 4 or above) issued by The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA); or

  ♦Photocopy of a degree from a university in Hong Kong or an English speaking country; or

  ♦Original score reports/certificates for assessment by the programmes concerned:

    - TOEFL (normally not lower than 550 Paper-based; 213 computer-based; and 79 internet-based);

    - IELTS (Academic) (normally not lower than Band 6.5);

    - GMAT (Verbal, normally not lower than 21); or

  ♦Photocopy of a pass in English of CUHK Matriculation Exam.;  or

  ♦Photocopy of a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country

•Confidential recommendations from 2 referees (not from the applicant) in sealed envelop.
